The commerce institution was established on 1st July 1974. At the initial stage 2 years program (C. Com &D. Com) was started and the institution was given the name Govt. Commercial Training Institute.

Government Associate College, Baghbanpura, Lahore was established in 1983 at Darogawala GT Road, Lahore in a rented building, and till 1992 it was functioning there. Thereafter, the college was shifted to Sagar Road, Cantt due to better opportunity of building. During the search for better buildings and facilities for the students, the college was again shifted to Sultan Mahmood Road, Baghbanpura in the year 1994, and till 2001, the college remained to serve the locality.
