The commerce institution was established on 1st July 1974. At the initial stage 2 years program (C. Com &D. Com) was started and the institution was given the name Govt. Commercial Training Institute.
Government Associate College, Baghbanpura, Lahore was established in 1983 at Darogawala GT Road, Lahore in a rented building, and till 1992 it was functioning there. Thereafter, the college was shifted to Sagar Road, Cantt due to better opportunity of building. During the search for better buildings and facilities for the students, the college was again shifted to Sultan Mahmood Road, Baghbanpura in the year 1994, and till 2001, the college remained to serve the locality. Now the college is functioning at its present address i.e., Canal Bank Housing Scheme, Fatehgarh, Harsbanpura, Lahore since 2001.
On 31st July 2012, the higher education department took the control of commerce institution and is hoped that the institution would progress much under the patronage of a greater organization.
GAC Baghbanpura, Lahore is functioning under the administrative control of the Government of the Punjab Higher Education Department, Lahore, and is an affiliated college with Punjab University, Lahore.
It is a renowned institution of Lahore city in the field of commerce and its courses of studies aim at imparting knowledge in the broad-based principles and procedures of Commerce to develop a strong foundation for the prospective managers in functional areas of business. Special emphasis is placed on training students in the application of this knowledge to solve organizational and operational problems faced by modern business entities. For the attainment of these objectives, teaching methods are so designed to develop the students’ ingenuity, foster self-confidence and initiative in them and sharpen their talents for original thinking & analysis.
The College is currently offering Intermediate of Commerce (Two-Year), Diploma in Commerce (Two-Years), and Associate Degree Program (Two-Years) programs with specialization in the fields of Accounting, Finance, and Secretariat Practice.
